Bird Feeding for Migration and Winter

Fall is officially here and it’s a perfect time to learn about and prepare for migrating and winter birds. Carol Harsh, owner of Wild Birds Unlimited in Schererville, will join us at Gibson Woods to give us the lowdown on bird feeders and seed to help your favorite feathered friends. For anyone ages 5 and up.
Owl be glad to see you as we invite Nicole Harmon, educator for Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and you for a visit with some of our favorite nocturnal friends. Join us Friday, October 26 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at Gibson Woods. Seating is limited. Stay at Home Flyers & Bird-Friendly Ornaments

Many species of birds stick around for our cold Northwest Indiana winters. Join us as we learn about some of them, take a short walk to see whos around and then make edible ornaments for them to enjoy at the feeder stations.
Tree Decorating Naturally

Decorating our holiday tree is our favorite winter activity at Gibson Woods, help us as get our tree decorated with natural ornaments. There will be a variety of craft and nature items perfect for making ornaments. Make a few for our tree and a few to take home. You can also bring any natural materials you have to share.

Oak Ridge Prairie
Nature is full of lots of surprises-maybe even fairies! Come to Oak Ridge Prairie Monday January 21 from 10-11:30 AM to build a house in the woods for fairies and nature’s friends to visit.The simple challenge of creating a fairy house gives children a unique activity that encourages them to go outside and connect with the natural world, while nurturing care and respect for the environment. Recommended for ages 3 and up but all can come. Please dress warmly for the weather.
